How to split a restaurant check
First calculate the tax and tip, then add them to the bill. Finally divide the exact total, in cents, by the number of people. When there is a remainder, a few people pay one cent more so the split adds up exactly.
Example: A $100.01 total shared by 3 people becomes $33.34, $33.34, and $33.33—not three identical rounded estimates.
